Dora Mae McKinney Slocum was born in Blackford, Kentucky, and spent most of her adolescent and teenage years in the state. She earned three degrees in Education at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky, including a BS, an MA, and a Rank.
Other activities and ministry: Thirty years in jail ministry. She taught women in churches and occasionally continues to teach women in her retirement. Her business experience started with buying homes and renting them. She was a "beekeeper" for ten years. She received her training and worked with a master beekeeper in Logan County.
She taught Elementary Education for thirty years in Bowling Green, Ky. She helped her former husband, James Miles, run his book business, and later in life owned and managed her own online book business for ten years. Dora Mae, for most of her life, has been an avid and faithful walker, with a consistent record of ten thousand steps every day, with few exceptions. During our marriage, I can testify that Dora Mae is a consistent walker and actually does walk ten thousand steps or more every single day with very few exceptions.
Gordon L. Slocum was born in Michigan and lived in Hokes Bluff, Alabama, as a child and teenager. His first job was "orderly in East Gadsden, Alabama nursing home, served in the Navy from May of 1965 to October 11, 1968, served at Woodlawn Church of God' as director of the Bus Ministry, taught 7th grade two years at a provate Christian school, elementary Greek, and history, served as a city councilman for one term in Flint City, Alabama, taught Sunday Schoo most of his life, helped managed a golf driving range, and pro shop, retired from General Motors after 31 years service, started and owned GLS Locksmith in Hartselle, Alabama for 18 years.
Education: Two years at Oakland University extension campus, Royal Oak, Michigan; four years at Detroit Bible College, later called William Tyndale College; graduated in 1978 with a BRE (Bachelor of Religious Education) and earned his MAR (Master of Arts in Religion) at Liberty University, School of Lifelong Learning, graduating in May of 1994. Locksmith education involved multiple schools and passing the national ALOA test to become a CRL (Certified Registered Locksmith), which he did about three years after starting his Locksmith Business.
